Mike Powell is a UK Director at Woodside Capital. Mike has 20 years experience managing, fund raising and selling businesses in the technology, telecoms and displays markets in both the private and public sectors. He has founded, funded, and then operated and sold three business; IOC international PLC, K2 Optronics and Pelikon .
From a background in defence contracting with GEC Marconi, IOC International was founded in 1991 as a pure play venture capital financed business making integrated optical components for the telecoms OEM market. IOC was floated on the London AIM stock exchange in 1997 and in 2000 was subsequently sold to NASDAQ quoted SDLI in 1999.
In 2000, Mike moved to the USA where he founded K2Optronics, a Bay area fibre communications component company. After raising venture funding, the company initially developed, then manufactured a range of high performance lasers for use in telecommunications, data communications, and test and measurement applications.
In 2002 Mike returned to the UK and joined the founding team of Pelikon as CEO. The company developed printed flexible displays for morphing keypad applications in mobile phones and consumer electronics. In addition to venture and private equity funding, the company formed a strategic and investment relationship with Motorola. In 2008 Pelikon was sold to NASDAQ listed MFLEX.
